Untethered jailbreak of your iPhone 4 on 5.0.1 and firmware 03.10.01 using RedSn0w for Windows.
Prerequisites:
Model: iPhone 4
Current version: 5.0.1 [Settings → General → About → Version]
Current Modem Firmware: 03.10.01 [Settings → General → About → Modem Firmware]
OS: Windows
Files to download [links will be provided in the steps where they are required]:
ipsw: 5.0.1 [iPhone3,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw]
Application: RedSn0w 0.9.10b3 [RedSn0w is a jailbreak utility released by the iPhone Dev-Team. It does not require installation of your iPhone firmware if you running a supported firmware version]
1. Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage
2. Download RedSn0w 0.9.10b3 from here:
https://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev.com/files/home/redsn0w_win_0.9.10b3.zip
3. Place it in the Pwnage folder.
4. Likewise, download the 5.0.1 firmware from here:
http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/041-3309.20111109.64rtg/iPhone3,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw
5. Place it in the Pwnage folder.
6. Extract the RedSn0w zip file by double clicking it.
7. Launch the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we just extracted.
8. Click to select Extras from the main menu.
9. Click to select Custom IPSW from the Extras menu.
10. Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the IPSW we downloaded then click Open.
11. RedSn0w will now begin building a custom IPSW for you.
12. You’ll be notified once RedSn0w has completed building your IPSW. Click the OK button.
13. Click the Pwned DFU button from the Extras menu.
14. Plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button
15. RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode.

16. Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
17. Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.
18. RedSn0w will run the LimeRa1n exploit
19. You’ll then be notified that your iPhone is in Pwned DFU mode
20. Launch iTunes by clicking its icon in your dock.
21. Select your device from the list on the left then under the Summary tab hold down the Shift key and 22. Click the Restore button.
23. You will then be asked to select your IPSW for restore. Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the IPSW that begins with NO_BB then click the Open button.
24. iTunes will now restore and jailbreak your device using the Custom IPSW.
25. Launch the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we extracted earlier.
26. Once RedSn0w opens click the Jailbreak button
27. Plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button
28. RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode. Refer step 15a for help on DFU mode.
29. Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
30. Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device
31. Your iPhone will now reboot
32. RedSn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data.
33. Select Cydia from the list of options and click Next.
34. Your iPhone will now be rebooted again and RedSn0w will begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.

35. Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. When your iPhone finishes rebooting (5 minutes or so) it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.
36. Once you have jailbroken you will need to rerun redsn0w to boot tethered
37. From the main RedSn0w menu click the Extras button.
38. Select Just boot from the Extras menu to just boot tethered.
39. Now you need to unlock the phone using steps below.

Unlock Your iPhone 4S Without Jail breaking?

A new unlock method has surfaced today which claims to work without the need of any software, hardware or jailbreak.
A bug in iOS 5 discovered by Michael Capozzi theoretically allows any iPhone 4S to be unlocked to any GSM carrier. However, Capozzi says he was only able to test with T-Mobile. It does require you to have an active T-Mobile SIM card (with data working). Remember it must be cut to micro-SIM size to fit the iPhone 4S.
The Steps:
● Insert original carrier AT&T SIM card
● Dial 611 for AT&T customer service hotline and drop the call
● Turn on Airplane Mode
● Take out AT&T SIM card
● Insert T-Mobile SIM card
● Make sure WiFi is off ( also tap on ‘Forget this Network” to make sure it doesn’t connect automatically later)
● Switch off Airplane Mode and iPhone will search for network. This is followed by the Apple splash screen appearing.
● Activation Required will be displayed on the screen
● EDGE network will activate automatically – notice the ‘E’ on the top left corner of the screen
● Wait for about 20-30 seconds and turn off the phone
● Turn on iPhone and the same Activation Required screen will be displayed
● When you see one signal bar, tap on Use Cellular Connection
● Eject SIM card
● Activation Required screen will be displayed the second time
● Insert SIM card
● Unlocked!
Remember this method may unlock your device; however, it will not last through a reboot. So while not practical for day to day use. It may benefit those traveling abroad.
